Smart City San Diego and the San Diego Zoo have installed solar photovoltaic canopies that will charge electric vehicles (EV) in the Zoo parking lot. One of the first of its kind in the region, the San Diego Gas & Electric® owned project uses solar energy to directly charge plug-in EVs, store solar power for future use, and provide renewable energy to the surrounding community.
The Solar to EV project will serve as a new energy infrastructure blueprint that can be replicated throughout the region and beyond. For the 3 month construction period this project created the equivalent of 12 full time jobs for local workers. For more information, visit:
