Solar Module Cell Shading and Current in Bright Sunlight

This video was produced to show you the concept of solar cell shading in a solar photovoltaic system. Shading a single solar cell in a string of multiple solar cells will kill off the power from the entire string of solar cells. Solar modules that have multiple internal strings use “bypass diodes” to enable current to automatically bypass the shaded string that is not producing power. Shaded strings can significantly affect the MPPT performance and efficiency of a solar photovoltaic system.
