Passive Solar Hot Air Panel System over Brick Wall – Permanent Install

Solar Hot Air Panel / Trombe style wall – Initially built large rectangular box using two single 14′ 2×6′s and several vertical 2×6′s, this outer frame was then mounted to the brick using masonry anchors and brackets. Additional lumber inset into cavities, holes drilled for connective piping throughout all 4 wall cells – 2″ ABS pipe installed thru these holes which serves to transfer the air. Unfortunately, the brick wall also has a masonry block wall just inside of it which is unfilled (significantly less heat conductivity in air filled masonry walls – best to fill them in where possible). In my case, do not see to need to do this.
I leave out one glass panel during the summer for ventilation. I remove this small air manifold and fans, reinstall the screen and can slide the window shut. I then roll out a sun shade to prevent the glassed in cavities from baking in the South facing sun.
