Lensun semi flexible solar panel installation on the boat from Michael

We are very glad that Michael shared his installation for Lensun solar panels on his boat with us.

1. He fixed the cable to one corner using a cable tie, then passed tape though the holes in each corner and stitched the tape to itself with UV resistant thread.

2. The wiring lies on top of the awning and is held in place by Velcro next to the cable.

3.The tape passes through webbing stitched to the awning and is pulled to the rear where it is fixed.  The panel cannot lift from the awning as it is held firmly at each corner.  Each webbing strip has a backing pad to provide additional strength.

4.The wiring is attached to the backstay using velcro

5.A waterproof Bulgin 7000 series Bucaneer plug and socket connect to the regulator beside the batteries.  He also have a 20A inline fuse at the battery to protect the wiring.

All wiring above and below deck is HO7RN-F 2 core (4mm2) to provide abrasion and UV resistance. Connections to panel and plug are coated with Contralube 770. Joint between HO7RN-F wire and tail to panel connectors is soldered, coated with Contralube 770 and sealed in self-amalgamating tape.

N.B.  The tape loops and Velcro cable ties make it easy to remove the panel when strong wind is forecast.  They would normally remove the panel if wind of more than 30kts is forecast.  However, that’s really to protect the awning rather than the panel and this only takes a few minutes.
