Renewable energy strengthens local communities through powering critical infrastructure with clean-sustainable electricity. Solar energy in particular can be a democratizing force, enabling de-centralized generation, and bringing power to the people.
In Syria, with our partners, we developed and deployed a pilot solar energy system for a critical hospitals in Syria. The solar photovoltaic systems includes 480 solar panels, advanced controls and an energy storage system. The diesel costs will be significantly reduced, and more importantly critical life saving departments will continue to operate at all times, even in case of diesel shortages. This footage was taken during the installation of the solar modules through out the winter of 2016-17.
Syria Solar is an initiative by UOSSM to secure all hospitals and health facilities in Syria to reduce dependency on diesel, and transition to renewable energy.
UOSSM is an international network of medical organizations working towards supporting the medical system in Syria.
