Finding a spring can be much more difficult than you would imagine. We found 3 springs on our OFF GRID property. Water is life, and worth its weight in gold! Our family decided to leave the city’s rat race and go “Down The Dirt Road” on a journey of self sufficiency and simplicity. We purchased 20 raw acres. We must figure out how to setup an OFF GRID homestead in a way that will enable us to “Thrive not Survive” in the mountains of North Idaho. Our goals (no particular order):
1) Observe our land so that we can apply a PERMACULTURE design
2) Install Earthworks ( swales / keylines) to control our water flow
3) Develop our WATER SPRING and verify if we can use a RAM PUMP to pump our water
5) Setup WATER STORAGE, and an ENERGY system ( Solar Panels and possibly Hydroelectric & Wind Power)
6) Install a Permaculture homestead (Back To Eden , Hugelkultur , Chickens , Goats , Vermiculture , Compost , etc.)
7) Design and build a PASSIVE SOLAR home
8) Apply DO IT YOURSELF ( DIY ) attitude to this journey!!!
