From Canals to Solar Cells : Dr. Alvin Compaan at TEDxToledo

Dr. Alvin Compaan is Distinguished University Professor Emeritus of the Physics and Astronomy Department at The University of Toledo. His research in photovoltaic materials and devices have been funded by many federal and state grants and several industrial groups. He is a co-founder of Xunlight 26 Solar which is commercializing flexible and transparent PV for window and auto sunroof applications. Al lives with his wife in a home with a grid-connected rooftop PV array manufactured in Perrysburg, OH, by First Solar. The system generates nearly all the electricity needed for their home and for commuting with his electric truck.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
