Biography
With a strong background in automotive tooling and solar panel manufacturing, Shawn(Xiaohua) Qu founded Canadian Solar in Ontario, Canada in 2001.
Today, Dr. Qu serves as CEO and Chairman of the Canadian Solar Board of Directors, leading the company’s strategic direction and manufacturing quality commitments.
Dr. Qu brings a strong strategic planning, scientific and manufacturing background to Canadian Solar, which was the first solar company to produce high quality and high efficiency modules using automotive manufacturing standards, exceeding standards used throughout the solar industry.
Prior to launching Canadian Solar, Dr. Qu served as Lead Research Scientist, Technical Vice President and Director of Solar Products and Strategic Planning at Photowatt International, S.A., a subsidiary of Automation Tooling Systems in Canada.
Dr Qu also worked as a Research Scientist at Ontario Power Generation Corporation (formerly Ontario Hydro), where he helped develop Spheral Solar TM technology.
Dr. Qu holds a PhD in Material Science from the University of Toronto and MSc in Physics from the University of Manitoba. He received his BSc in Applied Physics from Tsinghua University (Beijing, China).
