Hooked up the Wincong pwm charge controller to a 100w mono crystalline solar panel and a 12 volt deep cycle battery. Everything is working the way it should. When you wire up your system, remember to connect the battery to the battery connection first before you connect the solar panel wires.
You can set the different battery charge parameters by pressing set button for 2 seconds or so. Short press of the set button allows you to check different readings such as solar panel voltage, battery voltage, charging current etc.
The 30 amp controller with the LCD panel draws less than 13 mA from the battery when it is not charging.
You can charge Lithium ion battery packs that are above 8v (9to 35V) but you won’t have balance charging. When you change from the default charging settings of lead acid, you have to set the stop charging voltage and the float charge to the voltage requirement of the battery.
A USB output (do not use to charge high current draw item such as an iPad or your controller can be damaged) and a programmable load output round out this inexpensive controller, which is available on ebay for less than $30.
