Solar Panel installation – Zero Export / Grid Export Control Unit

This is a Q & A video explaining the basics of the Zero Export / Grid export control units that EBA Solar has available for install on grid connect solar systems that are not permitted to export any power to the grid.

The Zero Export / Grid Export Control Unit works by measuring the load drawn on a house using a current transformer on the mains. Once export to the grid is detected on the mains, the Zero Export / Grid Export Control Unit begins operation by switching in a sequence of relays which switch on selected loads to use up the excess solar power being produced. If the excess solar is still greater than the load being drawn then the control unit will cut the connection of the grid from the inverter. This will stop the solar power exporting to the grid.

Another option of stopping export is to reduce the amount of solar into the inverter by disconnecting one string of the PV when grid export is started. This option is only available for installations that have more than one solar PV array installed.
