Remember, always use proper fuses or circuit breakers when combining parallel strings of solar modules. Otherwise, a nasty high current fault will occur in the event of a module failure, delivering the entire current of the *working* modules to the dead one… BAM!
The module itself will self extinguish once the electrical fault burns itself out. Your roofing materials, leaves, trash, and birds’ nests that may have gathered underneath? Not so lucky.
Combiner boxes such as the MidNite Solar MNPV and OutBack FWPV series allow you to easily mount fuses or breakers in their weathertight enclosure for safe array installation.
