In 2010 Solar Energy Solutions of Louisville, Kentucky installed a 8.28 kW grid-tie photovoltaic system for a Louisville-area homeowner. The system consists of 36 SunPower 230 watt modules tied to two SunPower 4000 watt inverters. The system is directly connected to area utility Louisville Gas & Electric (LG&E). Any excess energy is fed to LG&E and credited back to the homeowner for consumption at a later date. On an annual basis the array should produce over 10,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh). This annual energy production is close to the equivalent annual energy usage of the average Kentucky home. Array payback is estimated in ten to fifteen years. Solar modules are warranted for 25 years and the only other system component is the grid-tie inverter. This system is registered for Solar Renewable Energy Credit production within the State of Ohio. The system was installed in less than two weeks.
