The seductive tales of wind turbines, photo voltaic cells, and biofuels foster the effect that with a several specialized updates, we might just maintain our present vitality trajectories devoid of consequence. Media and political coverage lull us into desires of a thoroughly clean vitality upcoming juxtaposed versus a tumultuous past characterized by evil oil organizations and the linked vitality woes they propagated. Like most fairy tales, this productivist parable is made up of a tiny little bit of real truth. And a total great deal of fantasy.
This chat does not expose a scandal or protect-up in the regular feeling, but fairly explores a unique alignment of interests and priorities that offers similarly provocative concerns to the environmental group. Solar cells glow brightly in the idealism of textbooks and the glossy pages of environmental journals, but true-environment activities expose a scattered collection of facet results and constraints that not often experienced into desirable realities.
This chat is based on Ozzie’s forthcoming e book, Green Illusions: The Filthy Strategies of Clear Energy and the Potential of Environmentalism (University of Nebraska Push, June 2012).
