Why do I sell one-call-close solar? I became an environmentalist about when my son was born eight years ago. At that time, I shifted into the industry of commercial lighting. We were reducing the amount of power and the amount of global warming that was associated with the power by putting in more efficient lighting.
I had experience in the home improvement industry, selling windows and TEX-COTE before that, so when solar started coming online, I jumped in. Right now, here in California, solar is going through the roof. It’s amazing the amount of systems that are being sold. It’s going to happen in the other states. Some of the other states are already up there, as well, but it’s coming.
I saw this as an opportunity where my mission was really to help the environment in the best way that I could. I was selling solar, but I was feeling like, “How can I do my mission in life and actually support a family?” I have a family. I want to live in a nice house. I want to live well. Solar was a really good match for me. By being able to sell solar, I can make a lot of money and at the same time, I’m doing good.
The one place that was missing for me was if I go out and do two appointments a day and I sell, I can make a good, really solid six-figure income. That’s fine; I’m doing my little piece. But I realized that if I can train other one-call-close salespeople to sell solar the way that I do, I can leverage that and I’ll be able to accomplish my mission a lot more effectively. I’ll be able to get more solar out there.
My mission is to get as much solar out there as we can. They say that if we get just 10% of the homes on solar, it will actually eliminate the need for 50% of our coal-fired power plants. Coal-fired power plants are where all of the global warming is coming from, all the mercury.
You know that when women are pregnant, they’re not supposed to eat fish. I realized that when my wife was pregnant. Why is that? Where does the mercury come from? Most of it comes from our coal-fired power plants. When they burn that coal, the smoke that comes out is loaded with mercury, and it lands in the rivers and goes into the ocean.
And the global warming factor. Right now, the goals that are being hit are unprecedented. Just a year ago they were thinking, “We’re never going to hit these high, lofty goals.” Now the goals are right within sight. They’re blowing past those goals for the amount of solar that is being put in. Jump on that bandwagon while it’s here.
I’m telling you, it’s a great opportunity. It’s probably the opportunity of the century for an in-home salesperson. For somebody who really cares about the environment and has that as their mission and their purpose in life, like me, there’s no better place to be. That’s where I’m able to make the biggest inroads into my purpose in helping the environment.
I’m with you. I want to support you if that’s part of your mission. If your mission is to make a lot of money, that’s great. If your mission is to help the environment, that’s great. Both of those things can happen with one-call-close solar.
