Cheap Chinese solar panels marketed by Silicon Solar lack the strength to withstand wind and other environmental shocks.
The delicate — and expensive — glass and aluminum panels must be mounted on a strong backing to survive the first windstorm. Or wandering squirrel. Or falling orange.
If wind or a squirrel breaks the panel, Silicon Solar will not sell only a panel. They demand the purchase of a complete unit — panel and pump. This means the user must purchase another substandard pump. At full price.
( I cannot find another source for complete panel/pump units. Only Silicon Solar offers the units I require. The Chinese company operates a false front ‘American’ website to sell over priced units, with false gallons-per-hour performance graphs, with very slow service, and infinite excuses.
( If any viewer can provide information on a company selling complete panel/pump units with the power to circulate water through a hydroponic system, please forward the information. )
( If any company wants to sell complete units of power and quality, please email. I will promote your products. )
Plywood can provide the needed support. However, the plywood must be weatherized with multiple applications of EXTERIOR GRADE paint. Rustoleum makes a brush-on paint proven to protect wood from weather for many years.
I painted the exterior trim of a house with Rustoleum. Southern exposure, sun UV, rain, storms — 20 years. I painted plywood shelving used by myself and my father in and out of the weather — 30 years.
