Off Grid Solar Science Fair

The STEM Girl explains our off grid solar setup.

We have a Renogy 50 watt panel and the 10 amp generic PWM charge controller that Renogy sends with it. The charge controller has a USB port, which is my favorite, since we will be able to put one of our Raspberry Pi computers on there and just let it run.

We bought a small 5 amp hour sealed lead acid deep cycle battery from the physical Batteries Plus store. The Bayite multimeter came from Amazon and is super accurate. We got some 10 awg stranded THHN wire from Lowe’s and some ANL fuses from Amazon.

We plan to use this for science fair in a few months. We will start collecting measurements now to compare the collection of solar energy in Kentucky’s January compared to April.
