As you probably know I live in an area that is compulsively cloudy. Weeks can go by with no sun. When I started out w/ 200 watts of panels and 225 AH storage, it should have been enough to cover basic lights, macbook and a few other occasional small items.
I moved to an area that I was told would be sunny most the time. They lied. In 3 months over the summer my batteries only got charged 3 days! I was told 2 months ago that “this week is the last of the cloudy weather”. I ignored it and purchased 2 more panels, on credit, that I did not have the money for. I had the money for the frame stolen and now 2 months later I got to have a frame constructed.
It is angle iron aluminum, much better than the first frame.
It of course has been cloudy and pouring rain every day since this video was filmed and if not for the new panels, my batteries would be dead by now. It really makes a huge difference. I am able to watch my favorite TV shows and use the computer and every day since the install my batteries have reached fully charged.
No there is not going to be much sun anytime soon and if there is it will not be for long, but I will have power.
Some think this is overkill, but I have seen it work for those who live in the Northeast, where they have almost as many cloudy days and yes it works here.
It is so awesome to have power again!
PS I still live off the candles and battery lights at night, because, well it’s just so damn pretty and calming-gotta have that ambiance to reduce the stress.
