Hybrid integrated Photovoltaic Solar water heater

Abstract: Photovoltaic thermal hybrid system is a device which provides the electricity and hot water simultaneously. In this study, the glazed flat plate photovoltaic system has been established with polycrystalline photovoltaic module, storage tank, controller, water pump etc. In this experiment, glazed transparent mirror is placed above photovoltaic panel and water heating system is placed underneath photovoltaic panel.
Introduction:
Photovoltaic system is one of the renewable systems in world. Commercial PV module having electrical efficiency is about 6-15%. Photovoltaic panels are made up of semiconductors and semiconductors are having the property that their electrical efficiency decreases when its temperature increases. So that output power of photovoltaic module is decreases when it temperature increases. In high solar radiation, electrical output increases but temperature also increases. Its electrical output will be maintained but when temperature of panel increases, electrical output decreases. In order to maintained consistent electrical output, temperature of panel has to maintained low.
Photovoltaic /thermal system is an application to recycle the heat and improve the temperature loss from PV module. In this system, water or air passes to photovoltaic panel to maintained panel at low temperature so that electrical efficiency remains constant at high solar radiation. By using this, hot water or hot air is also available for industrial processes.
Combine the solar photovoltaic and thermal application is high performance utility in solar energy. In this experiment, the PV/T module uses the tube sheet design to combine the photovoltaic module.
System Description:
The water based glazed photovoltaic system is manufactured in this study.
Photovoltaic /thermal system is composed of 100W poly-crystalline silicon PV/T collector, 35 litres insulated storage tank, Solar controller, Clamp meter, Ammeter, Battery, 12V Water pump and thermocouples.
The PV/T collector is made up of copper tubes and copper sheet and thermal adhesive layer for increment in heat transfer is placed backside of PV panel.
The solar radiation is measured by radiation pyranometer.
The photovoltaic electrical efficiency is measured by
ηe=P/(H*A)
The thermal efficiency is measured by
ηth=V*P*Cp*(To-Ti)/(H*A)
Density of fluid is 1000Kg/m3 and specific heat capacity is 4.18KJ/kg-C.
Overall system efficiency of the system is
ηo=ηe+ηth
