The Hidrocat Project aims at designing and building an emission free 15 m long tourist catamaran powered by a hydrogen fuel cell and photovoltaic panels feeding electric motors.
In this video, you can see a remote control 1:8 scale model of the Hidrocat equipped with a 100 W Horizon PEM hydrogen fuel cell, 2 metal hydride hydrogen storage canisters, photovoltaic panels, brushless DC motors and data acquisition equipment. The propulsion system of this scale model was designed and implemented by Julien Mélot for his M. Sc. in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering final thesis at Instituto Superior Tecnico, Lisbon, Portugal.
This video was shot by SIC Noticias journalists for the “Ovo de Colombo” breakthrough science innovation weekly show.
