UV light can be used to cure a range of materials, from adhesives to coatings to dental materials. At the NIST Combinatorial Methods Center, we have developed tools that allow us to screen a material’s response as a function of UV exposure. In most cases, short exposure leads to incomplete cure of the material, whereas long exposure leads to the material being brittle or discolored. Thus, a method for finding the optimum UV exposure is extremely valuable.
