Bill with Zamp Solar took the opportunity to give a brief overview of how he installed a Zamp Solar Deluxe Solar RV Kit.
Our Deluxe Solar RV Kits are a combination between simplicity and power. We’ve designed our system to be able to harness the power of up to 500 watts of solar power, however you can start with a smaller panel and add more as you go. Adding additional solar power is as easy as installing a new panel and plugging it in to our roof cap.
We make our kits easy to install but also allow the user to modify and fit to their specific RV parameters. The smaller the wire length the better the solar will perform.
In this video Bill lays out a 320 watt Zamp Solar Deluxe Solar RV Kit to be installed on his travel trailer. 320 watts is a significant amount of power, he decided on a larger kit due to his nightly power consumption from a CPAP machine making his total consumption greater than an average RV’er.
Bill decided to install the panels in the front of his RV due to the location of his two t-105 6 volt batteries. Mounting the solar panels near the front of the RV allows for the shortest run of wire to the batteries.
Instead of mounting the solar charge controller on the inside of his RV, Bill opted to put the controller in the same compartment his inverter and charger are located. This allows him to still monitor his solar system and batteries.
The installation process took about 4 hours to complete after setting out all the tools needed.
It’s important to make good connections that aren’t loose. It’s also important to cover the panels prior to installation and remember to add your auto breaker to the battery positive cable between the solar charge controller and the battery.
