Here’s an idea for an automatic ceiling fan using a small dc motor and a 5 v, 500ma solar panel. Mount the solar panel to a sunny spot and wire it to your fan. This makes a nice slow turning ceiling fan. The fan blade can be made of any materials as long as it’s not too heavy for the motor. When the sun shines, the fan will come on. Stops when you no longer have the sun. No batteries needed if run this way. Great for the new “green building” where lights go on or off according to the intensity of the sun outside. For extra cooling at night, you can add batteries. Even though it is a low rpm unit, be careful when you experiment, especially if you use metal blades. Mount everything securely.
