Astronergy started construction on a 200MW solar module manufacturing facility in China.
The company did not disclose the timeline for completion of the project.
Astronergy and parent company, Chint Group, are working to establish 200MW of PV cell and module production by 2015. Astronergy and Chint are also committed to set up 1,000 MW of grid-connected PV projects by 2010.
Until this deal, Astronergy has only purchased turnkey silicon thin-film production solutions from Oerlikon Solar. The equipment supplier’s role in the new factory has not been determined.
