Class Project to design a self-replicating mechanical system. All of the acrylic components, roughly 60% of the complete component parts, can be “reproduced” by the mill. Reliable dimensions of travel are approximately 18 x 22 inches, with a z travel of 6 inches. The first iteration of the design shown here, has had all of its component parts laser-cut for 2 primary reasons. firstly, i had access to a precise laser cutting system at the University of Michigan, and Secondly, the DXF files created for the Lasercut components can be easily converted to G-code in most Cam softwares.
The Video shows the maiden program being executed on the mill. “Hello World”.
