I still have more testing to do. This did successfully “live power” my Dropcam Pro directly from the sun, and it didn’t stop powering it until the thermal protection in the solar panel shut the panels off because of how hot it was outside. The fact that something like the Dropcam Pro can be powered directly from the sun without any assistance from a battery, is pretty awesome!
You could route the usb port from the solar panel into a battery bank, and connect the Dropcam Pro to the battery bank. Then the solar panel will charge the battery bank during the day, and the battery bank will power the camera at night. A 10,000 mAh battery bank has been tested to power the Dropcam Pro for almost 24 hours before running out of juice.
You could use this for more than just a Dropcam. A laptop, phone, usb light, usb fan, and many other uses.
In an emergency, this thing will be extremely helpful.
