    Never Be Without Power again.
My Three most used sayings are.
    1) A house roof looks unfinished until it has solar panels on it.
    2) A man is not looking after his family until he is producing his own power.
    3) Solar systems can be kind of pricey at first. Having power when no one else does, PRICELESS

Video describing how one can easily integrate a DIY Automatic Load transfer Switch into an existing breaker panel. While this method probably doesn’t meet the national electric code standards for some sort of enclosure or junction box requirements, the finished product is 100% safe and meets all other NEC standards such as common-neutral to ground bonding and such.

If you attempt to re-create use a higher amp relay with a 120v rating of at least 20Amps…. I recommend the following relays:
JQX-62F with a 120V coil. Ebay seems to have the best prices out of china. These can be purchased with ratings up to 120amps and they appear to be DIN mountable. Make sure you are looking at the blue cube looking relay. There is a SPST low voltage relay out there with the same product number.

    The products I used are:
Relays: Magnecraft 782XBXM4L (DPDT 120V Coil 15A@120V Ice Cube Type)
    Din Sockets: Magnecraft 70-782D8-1
    or Omron PTF08A-E
    Standard DIN Rail
12GA Romex or Solid Copper Wire

System works great in every way except that these relays don’t seem to last very long at 15amps.

This is not an instantaneous transfer. There is a delay of a second or less which is actually preferred. Most ATS systems, even super expensive ones, generally have a transfer delay built in.
    There are 2 concerns here:
1: Having a delay, even if it is a fraction of a second, preserves the Ground to Neutral Bond requirements of the system and makes the system conform to the NEC. because the neutral line is switched, there is never a chance for a double ground bond.
2: If the transfer was instantaneous, devices that depend on the phase timing of the power might be damaged or thrown out of whack by a new power source that is not close enough in phase timing. Things like induction motors/compressors, etc. Probably not a huge deal but it is a problem. ~
